Visiting dark places with Miss Sien

Some time ago I came in contact with model Sien and we agreed to do an Urbexshoot in a place that I felt was ideal for her fragile figure.
So we hooked up last Sundaymorning rather early and drove up to the location. After being perhaps 150 meters in the first part of the premises we got "busted" by a very angry man who was fed up of being confronted with vandals and drug addicts who trash the place. We stayed calm and explained him we had no bad intentions and he relaxed and finaly even told us where the better spots were to take pictures.

Now on to the pictures, starting with the shot I had to have ...

Naturaly other images where taken ...

...and since I told her to bring her boyfriend along he could act as my assistant or HLS (Human Light Stand) as you can see in this BTS ...

As we moved along the buildings taking more shots ...

Images taken with a Nikon D600 and the Sigma 24-105mm, most of them in Strobist style. My other camera was a Fuji X-E2s with the XF50 2.0

EVS

This time I visited EVS, a former pilotschool somewhere in Belgium. I will not tell more about the story of this place in order to keep it's location private.
Shot with a Nikon D600 and the 24-105 Sigma.

The hidden command post

Somewhere in Belgium are these 2 sheltered and underground airfield command posts that where manned in case of any sort of threat. Now totally derelicted and abandoned.

Pictures shot with a Nikon D600 and a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 on a tripod.

Only the décor remains, Manheim ...

After Borschemich and Immerath the third place I visited was Manhein. This village has to go since Tagebau Hambach has to expand. Here I was struck by the fact that a lot of the houses are rather recent and not just a bunch of old and worn out houses.

There are still villagers that have not moved yet and a group of refugees has been relocated in some of the empty houses. The refugees I saw lingering around, in pairs, were mostly men aged around 20-30 years. Of the 30 I saw on the streets only two were women. Something to reflect on...

Anyhow, I'm used to derelict places that are worn out, but walking around streets with "abandoned" recent houses gave me a strange feeling. You will see what I mean when looking at the pictures.
Even the Bundesautobahn 4 has to be partially "umgesiedelt" ...

As for the gear used, only the Fuji X-E1 and the XF14mm, as usual.

Only the décor remains, Immerath ...

The second village I visited after Borschemich, see Only the décor remains, Borschemich ... was Immerath. Same story here, they have to move for Garzweiler2. A few inhabitants still live here but eventually they will have to leave. A part of the village is already destroyed, the local hospital for example. A vast sensation of solitude and desbelief gets hold of you if this is a first visit. Everybody (almost) moved and left the décor of their life behind . Strange ...

On to the pictures now...
